Considering your very own work experiences that may be relevant—While you’re not here expecting work related to your career, taking into consideration your past experiences is something worth doing. Sure, you may not have had an experience fruit picking in a farm, but what about other work? If you’ve been a shop assistant, a customer service officer, or any work that involves receiving guests or customers, you may be able to include that. With that kind of experience, you can try applying as a bar person, waitress or waiters during your job in Australia. And if you’re on a 462 visa, such a hospitality job will let you apply for a second year visa extension as well.

The most popular one: regional work

Regional work still remains one of the fields that always needed a helping hand. These jobs are very popular among backpackers. One of the reasons is that a lot of these regional or “rural work” is a requirement towards attaining that much-desired second year work and holiday visa. Regional work itself can be divided into several types of work. Those works include:

Fruit picking and general crop maintenance work

Among regional work, this type of job has been one of the most popular choices. Farmers would always need a helping hand depending on the seasons, and a high turnover rate is something that is expected. However, always be wary of this type of job. Because of the popularity, so many farmers have known to take advantage of backpackers. Horror stories from being underpaid to horrible working environment have been told so many times. Make sure to check the farm and the company first. If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is. Bring enough money with you so you don’t get desperate to settle for just about anything.

Working at an animal cultivation place

This is another option or alternative for rural work if you’re looking for the second year visa. It’s a good option if you’d like to avoid fruit picking altogether. The types of job include work of maintaining animals for the purpose of selling said animals or what they produce and the work of manufacturing animal produce such as dairy from the raw materials.

Working hospitality jobs

Hospitality jobs include anything from being a barista to a front office at a resort or a hotel. Again, if your goal is to obtain a second year visa, then there are other details that you must note. For instance, you need to be in the Northern Australia and certain specified post codes for you to be eligible.

Working the good old office jobs

While known for being hard to come by, some people have managed to land an office job. This type of job is so much more stable and most of the time, it pays better. Whether you’re an office temp or you’re landing a more professional role, these types of job is definitely worth looking into if a more stable job is what you’re looking for.
