When you travel to different places you usually visit, you put your body in more vulnerable situation because you don’t really know if your body can adapt well to different time zones, weather, etc. Well, getting sick is not uncommon. People get sick several times a year. Travel itself exposes you to different or new range of parasites, bugs, and environments which make you more vulnerable of getting sick. However, getting sick when travelling is terrible experience. 

Minimizing the chance of getting sick when travelling

The longer you are travelling, the higher the possibility of you to pick up a bug or two and get sick. There are so many risk factors on the road that can make you sick. Here are several tips to prevent sickness during travel:

Travelling during corona virus outbreak puts you in more danger. You are more vulnerable to get sick. One of the most effective things to prevent from getting sick is practice good hygiene especially washing hand. It is the basic infection control. Wash your hand several times a day especially before eating or touching your face and after getting off of public transport.

Food poisoning

During travel, one of the most common sickness is food poisoning. There are many factors but the most common one is due to food contamination. You have to make sure that the food you are going to eat is well-cooked. Be careful when eating raw or fresh foods because they may contain some bacteria stills even after being washed. Don’t eat foods that have been left out or exposed for a long time. 

Staying active

Try to stay active during travel to keep your immune system function properly. If you keep your regular exercise, your body will stay fit and healthy. It improves your health in general as well as your immune system so you are less vulnerable to sickness and disease. Fit people also tend to be quicker to get back after being sick. It is not rumor but fact. 

Sun protection

Protect yourself from the sun because too much exposure to sun can put your health at risk. Heatstroke, sunburn, and dehydration often caused by sun exposure. Apply sunscreen anytime you are going out during your trip. Drink plenty of water but it’s better to limit caffeine and alcohol intake. Do not let yourself exposed to the sun for a period of time because you may get heatstroke.

Vaccines

Protect yourself by getting vaccinated before the trip and avoid mosquito bites during the trip. Some places in the world have those mosquito that can transfer you serious disease such as dengue and malaria. Avoid those mosquito bites to minimize the risk of getting sick. Always cover up well to protect your skin. Choose a room with air condition since it is more sealed and can prevent from mosquito to get in.
