Foods are all nutritious. However, sometimes, the process of making them delicious strips off their nutrition. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to stop consuming ultra-processed foods and opt for whole foods such as vegetables, whole grains, fruits, and proteins. You’re taking a significant step towards a healthier life by making this shift. Ensure those highly processed foods don’t take up most of your diet.

Moderate foods that affect your health negatively

Eating junk foods occasionally is okay if you eat nutrient-rich foods that provide the nutrition your body needs. Ultra-processed foods don’t benefit your body since most are highly refined grains, high in trans fat, lack fiber, and too much salt. Those are things that will be harder for your body to process. Making informed food choices can contribute to a healthier life.

Potato chips

Enjoying potato chips anytime you watch a movie or wait for your coffee to be ready is a delight. It’s an easy snack to grab. However, they don’t provide a balanced source of calories. They are calorie-dense with how much oil and simple carbohydrates they contain. It’s okay to eat them occasionally, but eating only them in a meal will only harm your body.

White bread

Bread is one of the primary foods most people use for breakfast. It is made of bread flour processed from wheat. The processing removes bran and germ. White bread has a light flavor but is made of an endosperm layer of wheat grain, so it contains less value than whole wheat. Thus, it’s recommended to choose whole wheat bread, as it is more packed with essential nutrients.

Fried chicken

Fried chicken coated in thick flour and dipped in barbecue sauce is heaven. However, the excessive white flour, oil, and salt strip the chicken of its primary nutrient, protein. Instead of fried chicken, opting for grilled or air-fried chicken is recommended to help remove unhealthy ingredients.

Sweet cereals

Lots of people like having cereal for their breakfast. However, many cereals contain only simple carbohydrates and sugars. Eating cereal for breakfast is not considered a healthy choice as it can cause a blood sugar crash. It makes you feel hungry sooner and crave more sugar just a few hours later. Opt for a low-sugar cereal or plant-based one, which usually has more fiber and protein, so you feel more energized longer.
