A road trip is fun and can be done solo or in group. However, one of the down fall of road trip is that the lack of proper rest and sleep especially when it takes days to weeks. Being on the road for so long can take a toll on your body no matter how fun it can be to keep travelling. It is important to get enough rest and sleep especially for a road trip where you drive your own car. Fatigue or over-exhaustion can lead to accident. Meanwhile, safety should be in your first priority when it comes to travel.

How to properly recharge your body during long road trip

For passengers, sleeping in the car during a road trip is easy. The white noise and vibration can help a lot in inducing sleep. However, it is different if you are the one who drive. You cannot just fall asleep while behind the wheel. You need to stay alert and focus on the road while enjoying the trip. Thus, you need to find the way to properly get enough sleep so you will stay alert while driving.

It is highly recommended to bring travel buddy for a long road trip. It is nice to take turn driving so you can get proper rest. Besides, a long road trip with travel buddy is much more fun because you can share the experience. You get to enjoy the trip with excitement and good moods.

Take frequent break even if you don’t need to go to the toilet. You should at least rest every two hours driving. You need to stop your car in a safe place so you can stretch, drink, or have some snacks. If you are really tired, do not force yourself to keep driving. If your travel buddy also feels the same hence you cannot switch, pull over in a safe place and take a nap. Even if you just sleep for one hour is enough to feel refreshed and recharged.

Find safe place every time you need to sleep. Make sure to choose a place that is not secluded so you will stay safe. Avoid pulling over and parking on the side of the road or highways. There is risk of being hit or towed by another cars. Or, a police might knock on your window. Choose a place that is lit up enough to feel safe without disrupting your sleep.

If you cannot fall asleep even during a break, find the root of the problem. If it is the temperature, adjust the temperature accordingly. You can also bring comfort items from home so you can get proper sleep during the trip such as blanket, pillow, or eye-patch.

It is always best to rent a room so you can sleep in better position during the road trip. If it is not possible, get as comfortable as possible sleeping in the car. Also, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothes for a long road trip. Avoid clothes that block your blood circulation.
