Petra is a safe place to visit but potential danger and threats are still there especially because it is a relatively crowded tourist attraction especially after it is crowned as the Seven Wonders of the World.

Petra is quite expensive tourist attraction. Thus, you have to prepare your finance. The foods and drinks sold in restaurants around Petra are also relatively expensive. That’s why it’s better to bring your own drinks and snacks if you want to save your money from excessive spending. As for your safety, here are things you should know about so that you will visit comfortably and safely.

Lots of people are still worried about travelling to Petra especially because its location. Lots of parents are worried knowing their children are going to travel to Petra. However, Jordan is relatively safe city so it is safe to visit Petra. It is understandable to feel a bit nervous since Jordan is neighboring with Syria Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Israel. However, most travelers who visited Petra before didn’t feel any tension or something off during their visit. They felt like visiting any other tourist attractions. 

The Scams of Seemingly Polite Guys

However, it is highly suggested for female travelers to be more careful because there some case of scams, robbery and sexual harassment. It is more recommended for female travelers to bring companion in visiting Petra. Be more aware of guys approaching you even if they look polite and inviting. Refuse their advance politely and they will back off. It is also highly suggested to not wander around alone at night. Avoid a place with too much crowd and stay with your group.

Be careful of the locals who offer you the ‘shortcut’ to the lookout. You can reach the lookout sites in an hour via official maintained trail. The shortcut might offer you a half an hour-trail but it could be dangerous. Some of the shortcut trails are not even maintained and are too steep. It is safe to use official trails recommended by the Petra official guide. Or, you can trust your travel guide. Do not risk your safety just for a shortcut because the viewpoint of the official trails are as stunning, if not more.

Walking throughout the site can be exhausting especially if you are not used to physical activities. Therefore, make sure that your body is in good condition before visiting the place as to not harm your body.
